Cervelo have recently launched 2 new bikes – the S2 aero bike that came out earlier in the year, and the brand new R2, which was launched last week.
The S2, which is essentially an S3 frame with a more economical fork, retails for B#2399 and allows a relatively affordable entry into the world of Cervelo aero bikes. The S2 has the aerodynamic front triangle of the S5 with the comfort offered by the rear end of a R series bike. We have these in stock already at Cycle Art.
The R2, which mirrors the trickle down effect of the S2, is the entry level R Series bike. R Series bikes, which are born of the same DNA as the highly praised Project California, retails at B#1999 and features the same frame as the R3 but with a more economical fork. Finished in white with red graphics, it is equipped with Shimano’s new 105 11 speed groupset. As soon as these bikes land in the UK, we will have them.
Cervelo for women
Whilst Cervelo do not have a women’s specific design, the smaller models can easily be adjusted to fit the female body, with narrow bars, shorter cranks arms and a female specific saddle.
At Cycle Art we ride what we sell. By choosing to sell the equipment we personally use and believe in, the advice we give is backed up by personal experience and an in depth understanding and passion for our products. The second in our features of staff bikes looks at James Ashberry’s Cervelo R3.
James’ background is not in the cycling trade, but as a graphic designer. He started cycling at a young age as a mountain biker in Yorkshire, lost interest, and ate himself up to 22 stone. He rediscovered his love for all things pedal powered and lost 7 stone in the process.
James had been a long time fan of Cervelo, and when his previous bike was written off in a crash in Mallorca, he jumped at the chance of an R3. Cervelo have 2 main road series – the R Series (or “Classic Road”) and the S Series (or “Aero Road”). The R3 is the entry into the Classic Road series, sitting below the lighter R5 and the super light RCA. As with all the R Series frames, the R3 has a stiff front end thanks for the tapered head tube, “Squoval” (square and oval) tube profiles, and BBRight bottom bracket shell (79mm wide instead of 68mm). It is also blessed with a comfortable rear end thanks to super skinny seat stays, and a slightly more relaxed geometry than most race bikes.
James has chosen to equip the bike with a SRAM Red Black groupset, Mavic Ksyrium Elite SLS wheels, Pro PLT & Vibe finishing kit and fi’zi:k saddle and soft touch bar tape. He is also a big fan of Shimano’s SPD-SL pedal system over the Look Keos. Just like Chris, he runs a compact chainset and 25mm tyres, in this case Rotor 3DF and Clement Strada LGG 25mm. The bike weighs under 16lbs, without any real effort to save any weight other than the SLS wheels, but James himself admits it would be easier to lose weight off himself rather than the bike.
James regularly says there’s only 3 bikes he would replace this Cervelo with – and 2 of those are another Cervelo!

When it comes to Cervelo in the North East, Northumberland and County Durham, there is only one destination worth considering – Cycle Art in Prudhoe.
Let us proudly introduce… The Cervelo Wall.
At Cycle Art, we believe each bike we sell to be a piece of art, and none more so than a Cervelo. Each Cervelo on our wall is mounted in an oversize picture frame, creating a gallery of some of the most exotic and desirable bicycles around.
Hanging up on our Cervelo wall we have the brand new super slippery P3, the ever popular, multiple Iron Man winning P2, the brand new S2, and David Millar’s ride of choice, the S5 aero road bike. The P5 and S3, the only aero bikes not on our shop floor, are on their way to us shortly too.
If lightweight is more your thing, we also have an R3, an R3 Dark, and a stunning, B#8000 Di2 equipped 2014 R5 – the same R5 frame that was used by the likes of Dan Martin and Tyler Farrar for Garmin Sharp Cervelo. A new R5, which is essentially a production version of the Rca, has already been in our shop – but it lasted 30 minutes before a customer bought it. He was pretty impressed with it, as you can see for yourself here. For more information on the Cervelo R Series of bikes, why not read our
